Matt Cutts – Words of Wisdom for SEO Marketers

Matt Cutts is one of the web personalities who influenced me most when it comes to internet marketing. He along with Seth Godin were able to show me that if you have something important and innovative to share with people, then search engines and other web users will do their best to promote it for you.
This idea along with the “Keep It Simple Stupid” principle is pretty much the base for my SEO strategy and I see that many other successful internet marketers work on similar ideas. For those of you who have not heard of Matt Cutts, you should know that he is one of the most respected employees of Google and also the one in charge with webspam team and a writer for the Google Webmaster Central Blog.
What I really like about Matt’s tutorials is that he doesn’t teach you how to speak “machine”, but actually talk to people. He is always focusing on the evolution of search engines and how to think about user experience and not think of search engine.
Matt has become popular because of his articles in which he shares the secrets behind some of the Google algorithms and optimization advices. On his blog you see that there are some other topics too, but basically there are tons of videos with advices and resources for SEO people.
That’s why today I decided to share with you some of my favorite videos.
Basic SEO Advices
This is one of Matt’s popular interviews. The interview with USA Today will highlight some tips for beginners in the world of SEO and some of the tips can help even the experienced ones too. In addition, Matt will reveal the truth about some “myths” that the world thinks about the Google search engine and paid advertising. Even if the interview was shot in 2008, the same principles apply today.
Can Less Optimized Content be Penalized by Google?
One of the biggest fears of webmasters is of course being penalized by the Google search engine. As you know, earlier this year Google launched the Panda algorithm which placed millions of websites on the blacklist. Matt tries to help those confused and those who are afraid of getting banned. Our advice is to work on optimizing the website as good as you can and focus on building great content. Google understands webmasters and they get small mistakes and they surely don’t penalize you for those.
Importance of W3C Validation in SEO
Many people find that in order to be successful with SEO, you have to have your website valid according to the World Wide Web Consortium or W3C. The fact that Google.com is not valid, makes some SEO marketers become doubtful. Google doesn’t actually validate because they actually care about speed and every extra bit can cause great damage for millions of searches.
HTTP vs HTTPS
HTTP – Hyper Text Transfer Protocol vs the Secure Transfer Protocol. The second one is a bit slower because it offers users more secured connections to the website. Those connections are quite recommended for websites where people can register or where you store important data. Sites like PayPal use the HTTPS connections and it seems like the Google Chrome team also worked on improving it. In the video you have full explanation on which one is best for you.
